Maddy Ringo
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Ringo has spent her formative creative years writing about what she knows: the urban world, girlhood, and the struggle for a Canadian national identity. The foundation for Cardiogram of the New World Order was laid in her Writing 220 Gateway course for the Minor in Writing at the University of Michigan. The piece serves as a thesis for her 19 years in the city, exploring themes of post-industrial society.

In her work, Ringo draws considerable inspiration from Beat Literature (particularly the work of Diane DiPrima and Allen Ginsberg), Zen literature, and Toni Morrison. Of course, being primarily a musician, music heavily informs her practice. The lyricism and sound of Thom Yorke, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Conor Oberst, among many others, are due credit for shaping the perspective of this literary style.
